After the Happily Ever After: Mare

Okay, yes, she’s Queen of the Universe on the back of a motorcycle, but that leaves open many possibilities.

What do you think happened to Mare after the story was over?

Do they need event planners in Crash’s Italian village? I think Mare would be a fabulous event planner - it’s like being paid to give creative parties and make people have fun. I don’t see any real scope for the telekinesis, but no one should put magic at the center of their life (Xan as Awful Warning) - it should be fun icing on life’s cake.

They move to Tuscany and Mare falls in love with the countryside and the motorbike business. She starts out just helping a little here and there, but soon takes over the organizational aspects. The business, already fairly successful, really takes off under her management.

Weekends, she and Crash take off on their bikes and tour the countryside. Although Mare is much more confident now with her power, one issue still remains. Always up for a challenge, Crash has has gotten really good at finding new locations with only really heavy objects nearby.

I prefer to think that all three sisters, after travel and honeymoons etc, find a way to stay close to each other, founding magical dynasties in good old Salem’s Fork.

I vote that they and their hubbies turn Salem’s Fork into one of “The Hundred Best Art Towns” in America. Paintings, motorcycles, couture shoes, literary events, film, and bunny, festivals, they’d have it all.

Besides, you really shouldn’t consecrate a magic circle in such a manner and just leave it. Sheesh!

Because Mare and Crash’s relationship has been the longest running one, I think they get married right away and move to Italy. They hold off on having kids right away because Mare is still finding herself, in fact she’s now contemplating college, in Italy. Go figure.
It’s a fresh start for all of the sisters but they each need some distance to sort out who they are and how they function without each other, yet they’re still close and in constant contact. One in Ireland, one in Spain, one in Italy. Each with their soul mate. Sigh.

Mare is content being with Crash. The piece of herself that she had been looking for all of her life, the piece that she thought Xan held the key to, suddenly falls into place the day she looks into Crash’s eyes and says “I do.”

She wants the vision–the dusty road, the sun, the fat toddler–so she and Crash get busy starting that family they want. They end up with four boys, and just when Mare has decided that is enough she is blessed with one more–a little girl. The boys follow their dad into the motorcycle business and try as she might Mare can’t find a hint of the old magic in any of them. Their daughter, however, is another story and Mare isn’t surprised the morning she walks into her daughter’s room to find her levitating her crib. Apparently their powers are only passsed to the women in the family, and Mare realizes that her daughter is truly destined to be the Queen of the Universe. She asks Elric and Lizzie for advice on how to raise a young wizard, and Elric graciously takes on her education, since he doesn’t want a replay of the mess that Liizie put the universe in!!
