Mare’s Best Moment

When you’re Queen of the Universe, life is just one fabulous moment after another.

You mean pick just ONE? Tough to do, as much as I loved Mare, but I was particularly fond of the Corpse Bride showing during Xan’s libido spell, where Mare dissuaded agressive admirers, threatened Dreama’s date, and was woman enough to apologize to Crash (with a Princess Bride quote) and go after what she wanted. Long reign the Queen of the Universe!

I would have to say it was the epiphany when they were riding on the cobblestones, and she again attracted a garbage can. They were seriously meant for each other.

Hmm, perhaps doesn’t count, since it is more Crash’s moment than Mare’s, but when he took her to task for doubting him and then walked out, leaving her in the video store in a Corpse Bride wedding dress and telling her to come to figure it out … just genius. I think that was a huge turning point for Mare where she has to swing from blaming others and hiding behind being hurt to taking control, just like a proper Queen of the Universe should.

It’s not really a Mare moment but I really loved it when Mare’s having a meltdown and Dreama tells her to get a grip and act like the Queen of the Universe she really is. Dreama’s time as QOTU-in training really paid off.

And the whole do-you-want-to-go-home-with-your-friend-and-watch-girls-on-tv-or-do-you-want-to-interact-with-a-real-girl? scene was priceless.

I personally loved it when she stood up in the diner and called the other patrons “Fork people.”

“I am cogitating” is my new mantra.

I loved the scene where Mare is explaing her movie screening to Jude. She sounded so creative and sarcastic.

I’m only about a third of the way through but I’m enjoying it a lot. I wasn’t sure what to expect and like having lots of characters and I’m into it. My fun news is that I found a matching pencil box for my lovely TUMF screensaver/ background. I’ll see if this comment lets me post a picture.

I used to hate pink, but it’s growing on me. I keep looking for the dogs and cats to start living together…

Ok, it showed in the preview but not here. Here’s the link. It opens a pic from photobucket. If you’re curious, cut and paste.

I loved the scene starting on pg. 222 (six for the devil, heh.) Anyway, it was in the diner when Mare met Xan. The dialogue was wonderful, it was a quick back and forth but amazing writing in the depth of the detail of their seperate stories.

I’m with Tanya, picking just one is impossible, particularly given how much of the plot Mare got with her two guys. However, I’ll have to put in a plug for the tar-and-feather (updated to peanut oil and leaky beanbag chair) scene in the back room of Value Video when Mare informs Jude that he’s just a minion. Definitely a queen of the universe moment, and one of the funniest too.

I meant that as 222 one third of the devil, being 666. Heh. Figure you were all up early and feeling sharp, so you got my drift. Heh.

Love Mare’s practical side. She’s quite down to earth for a witch.

We have no idea what page is going to be what in the printed book. So that was a freebie.

I enjoyed the scene where Mare first meets Jude and she is trying the whole mind control thing on him and it isn’t working for her. She keeps thinking all these positive thoughts and he is just too dense to get them. And she keeps doing it and acting like everything is just fine while in between she talks to the boys and tries to keep the DVD’s neat and the whole time she is like “no, there is nothing wrong with William”, she is the Queen of the Universe and she tries so hard to keep things together. And then when he offers her the promotion and suddenly she just stops and realizes that she DOESN’T want to be Queen of Value Video!! after all.

I loved the scene where she and Crash were at the restaurant. While Mare talks, sugar crystals are churning in the bottle and Crash tries to get her to see it, but she appears, to him, to be oblivious to it. That reminded me very much of the scene early in Getting Rid of Bradley, when Lucy enters the house and is chatting to her dogs and the dog is rolling on the floor playing dead and she seems oblivious to him.

By the way, Jude reminded me of Min’s ex boyfriend turned stalker in Bet Me.

I see I am too late to win! But! I loved when the butterflies flew off the curtain (?) in the bedroom after they made love there. Straightening the headboard was nice too, but those butterflies…

I have just recently gotten into reading romance novels, but this novel is by far my favorite. Mare my favortie character. She has a witty attitude. I love when she figures out that Crash really does loe her and she is in complete control of her powers. (end of the novel). It would be really awsome to see what happens next!

Yep, I loved those butterflies also. And the wildflowers in the oak tree.
