I think my favorite was the second scene, at the B&B. The image of Dee getting all hot and bothered while in owl form, terrified that she would turn into his mother right there on top of the cabinet.

When Dee & Danny were driving around looking for Xan. Talking about when they would have sex. And the kiss at the end of that ride when Dee described the kiss as a work of art. “For the kiss she’d use vermillion. Hot and sweet and impossible to turn from.”
I’m with McB. I loved the owl scene and the sexual tension was fabulous. And that thing of her sitting so still and trying not to sneeze as he stripped off. And the line, “Was he humming or was she?” That cracked me up.

I think it was at the beginning, when she was in owl form, and Lizzie caught her preening for him. And he noticed.

I’m with K.L. I loved the line about “he had to be an ornithologist”.

My favorite part of Dee’s story was when she decided to go face Xan, take her on, and runs into Danny on the way.
“He turned, held out his hand, guided her to her seat…. It was such a simple thing, a gift of courtesy. But it made her want to cry. No one ever thought to do for Dee O’Brien… she was in charge, in control.”
Deep inside of her she’d built up a wall, in her endless quest of Taking Care of the Family, a barricade that kept safe all of the vulnerable parts of her. And when Danny reached out, something in that wall cracked. She was the caretaker; she’d always been the one trying to control the situation, and yet that one simple act of kindness got through to her.
I liked it.

I’m about half way through my second read, and catching a whole lot more this time around. I have to agree with the scene on top of the wardrobe. Can owl’s drool? Because if they can, she had to have been. I could totally feel her frenzy at the situation she found herself in.
But, I also really liked when Xan used the impulse spell and Dee felt her nose tickle and said yes to a drink with Danny. I could see her look of shock as she thought, “Holy hell! What just happened there?!?!?” Very fun.

I liked the first one in the kitchen, or when she had first turned into the owl, when she was preening, and Danny said, “I think she likes me.” Cracked me up. It was great.

You mean if we keep commenting we could win??? Okay…I also liked the whole wool suit and bare ass thing. That was funny and evocative. ;+))) I hope she learned her lesson and stashed undies the next time.
Definitely the owl scene–and later when she confesses to Danny that she was the owl and he says something about it WASN’T stuffed–that cracked me up too.
