Who Would You Cast To Play Mare?

Let’s remember, Mare is not small nor is she, uh, . . . graceful. Give her somebody who can play the Queen of the Universe, please.

Who’s going to play Mare in your movie?

OK- I know this actress is tiny, but if we can talk about dying the hair of other actress as well as going back in time, I think we should also be able to alter their bodies a bit, so my choice for Queen of the Universe is:

a much taller and more athletically built Rose McGowan.

She has the sass, the dark humor, the charisma, and the general lack of concern for what others think. She’s the actress who first sprung to mind when the opening chapter came out. So, yeah, she’s tiny, but she and Mare are pretty much soul twins.

I’m thinking Portia de Rossi. She’s not incredibly tall, only standing at 5′8″, but she can definitely do quirky and Queen of the World.

Laura Prepon definitely. She’s 5′10″. She played Donna on “That 70s Show”. She could totally be queen.

    Kristen Johnston.
I know she’s older than Mare, by (ahem) a few years. But still, she’s TALL, she’s sexy as all get out, she’s got the attitude to pull off QOTU, but she can do physical comedy oh so well.

Of course, if it’s Hollywood casting the movie, they will probably go with someone much younger. The tallest person I can think of that could pull off the not-so-graceful routine would be Anne Hathaway. Plus, she’s cute and spunky, but still could do the QOTW attitude. And I so can see her on the back of a motorcycle…

I’m still stuck on this idea I had yesterday so - Mandy Moore. Although Anne Hathaway I can see also.

Wow, thinking of actresses who are young enough to play these roles is tough. No original thoughts here. I could see Anne Hathaway doing it. She’s older but the other actress I thought of was Charlize Theron. She’s chameleon like in her looks and she’s both tall and talented.

Not the right age range, but definitely Sandra Bullock.

Although I love the suggestion for the actress from That 70’s Show, too.

I too think that Anne Hathaway would be great. I also thought of Jacinda Barrett and although she is only 20, Anna Popplewell.

Sara Ramierez. (Callie from Grey’s Anatomy.)

  10. Jenny Crusie July 6th, 2007 3:25 pm

And the Lady of the Lake from Spamalot. I adore Sara Ramirez.

You need tall and athletic…I know that she is a tad old for the role, but I would chose Cameron Diaz

  12. me July 6th, 2007 5:26 pm

I didn’t know she was in Spamalot!

  13. Christine July 6th, 2007 5:28 pm

I think that Anne Hathaway or Laura Prepon would be good choices. Both are tall and beautiful and they both have that wild streak that Mare seems to have.

  14. K.L. July 6th, 2007 5:35 pm

I can totally see Laura Prepon as Mare.

  15. J.Z. July 6th, 2007 8:30 pm

I have Jeanna Elfman in my head for this one. She’s quirky, strong, and quite tall from what I’ve seen. She’s also got quite a wild streak.

Sara Ramirez! Wow, she’d be great at it.

Jenifer Garner. She’s tall enough, gorgeous, and she’s got attitude.
Maybe Megan Fox, if you’re thinking she’d have to be younger (as the youngest sister) there’s something compelling about her but not sure how tall she is.

It’s interesting to see what each actress would bring to Mare. Because each of those would be so different even thought they’re all capable of the role.

The placeholder I was using is an actress in her thirties, but she just was Mare for me at the beginning: Pauley Perrette. I still think she’s be great in the role.

  19. robena grant July 7th, 2007 12:41 pm

Had to go google Pauley, as I’m not familiar with her or her work. She’s got the most amazing “witchy” eyes. Heh. Excellent choice.

Now I HAVE to stop playing on your blogs and go do my pitch cards for Dallas. Sigh. I’m so not in the mood …

  20. Jamie H July 7th, 2007 12:58 pm

Wow- she’s definitely got Mare’s attitude and looks! She’s got my vote if a movie of TUMF gets made.

  21. ZaZa July 8th, 2007 2:28 pm

Maybe physically and chronologically all wrong, but I love Annie Potts, and she is definitely QotU in her attitude and her disregard for the small stuff. I can so see her as Mare.

God, this took me ages, but I’m really getting into it now. I stalled at the “not small or graceful” part, because I kept thinking, “that’s me, I’m big and clumsy..”. But I’m a lot quieter than Mare, not famous and not likely to be given my total lack of acting ability, so how about Katee Sackhoff from Battlestar Galactica? I know she’s blonde, but other than that, I think she’d make a great, funny, feisty Mare. And she has some experience of being Queen of the Universe. Well, parts of it, anyway.

  23. Jenny Crusie July 8th, 2007 5:46 pm

Oh, she’d be terrific! I hadn’t even though of her, but she’d be perfect.

  24. Sheri July 9th, 2007 10:45 pm

Mare kind of stumps me. She’s the youngest and I am so not up on young actresses. I like Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana) if she was a little older–she’s cute and sassy and a bundle of energy. Oh–I have no idea of real names, but she used to be Olivia on GH and now she is on that Las Vegas TV show with James Caan. She’s gorgeous. And the girl that plays Sam on GH would be good also–she won Dances with the Stars a season or two ago. Sorry, I really don’t know names at all–I just know the parts they play! *blush*

  25. Sheri July 9th, 2007 10:50 pm

I got it–Drew Barrymore. She’s wild, crazy, not graceful yet gorgeous in her own way.

  26. Sheri July 9th, 2007 10:54 pm

    Or Liv Tyler.

  27. Andi July 10th, 2007 6:07 pm

Mandy Moore or Alexis Bledel, tall, pretty, not skin and bones, good strong girls. Oh, who played the film-maker girl from Travelling Pants, she would be good too, very “this is my world, you’re just livin’ in it.”

  28. Kris July 11th, 2007 2:35 pm

I was thinking someone like Emmy Rossum. She is about the right age (21 but looks a little older), pretty, and tall.

  29. Courtney July 12th, 2007 8:59 pm

I’m thinking Jennifer Morrison. She plays Cameron on “House,” who is not much of anything like Mare, but I she looks right in my head-and, hey, she’s an actress, so she could do it. That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.

  30. Terry Lacey Causby (TLC) July 16th, 2007 2:27 pm

I can’t see anyone but Selma Blair in the role of Mare. Granted, the age doesn’t match, but I’m confident that she could make up for it.

  31. Delta Dawn July 23rd, 2007 6:16 am

How about Jessica Biel? She can do the whole tough thing pretty well. But Laura Prepon would fit the part perfectly, if she looks okay with dark hair…

  32. Shoshana July 23rd, 2007 5:56 pm

I can’t help thinking of Queen Latifa, even if the age and coloring are a little off.
    But she has Mare’s PRESENCE!

    Rachel McAdams
