The Unfortunate Miss Fortunes
Mare Fortune, Dee Fortune and Lizzie Fortune are three sisters living in Salem’s Fork, West Virginia. What makes them a bit different than a lot of sister is the fact they are witches. Are they the normal witches who know their powers and what can be done with them? Oh no; if they were this book would not be nearly as exhilarating or as humorous.
These three sisters had a very unfortunate childhood. Their parents died under some very mysterious conditions. The doctors say that what killed them was hypothermia but Dee, the oldest sister, swears Aunt Xan’s killed them. So Dee loaded the girls up in the middle of the night and they struck out on their own. They have lived in several different states under different names but this time Aunt Xan has found them and she has contrived the perfect trap. Each sister is confused and confounded by her powers and just wants the powers to be done. Xan has found the perfect man for each one of the sisters; all the sister has to do in order to keep her man is to give up her power. Will the sisters give into Xan or will they have finally learned enough from each other and from the men to fight back?
The Unfortunate Miss Fortunes is a tale of delightful, wicked witches who just can’t control their powers. I was mesmerized by this book from the word go. From the witch who couldn’t control what animal she would turn into, to the “white fuzzy bunnies” it was an amazing book. When I started the book I thought that it would be a regular anthology, but I was very surprised to discover that all three sisters had their stories happen at the same time and they overlapped. I’m not sure who wrote what but this is the best print book that I have read in a long time. According to the back of the book, it was considered to be a joke but this is the best kind of joke I’ve ever read. Ms. Crusie, Ms. Dreyer and Ms. Stuart are blessed with a resounding 5 angel review.
