And we thank you for your support . . .
The fully designed blog is going up soon (”soon” meaning “by June 1 probably”) and then we’ll start promoting this place and more people will come. Well, we hope more people will come. But we have been talking and we feel that it’s important to thank all of you who’ve been with us for the long haul. So we’re going to run an informal contest right here on this post, just for all of you while the blog is still under the radar.
You may remember that we had some trouble coming up with a tag line for The Unfortunate Miss Fortunes. We weren’t crazy about “The only thing hotter than their magic is their men” line and neither was our editor, so that’s been replaced by “There’s magic in the night.” But you can never have too many tag lines. So we figured we’d run a tag line contest. You all know the book pretty well since you’ve been reading right along. So come up with a great tag line and win an ARC for The Unfortunate Miss Fortunes. Dee, Lizzie, and Mare will be the judges and their decision is final. but since they can never agree on anything, they’ll each have to give an ARC, so there will be three winners. We’re warning you now, the covers on these ARCs are a disgusting purple with a sort of dull gold typeface that is truly butt-ugly. They are not a thing of beauty. But they do have the full uncorrected galley text, and they will have our three signatures in them, assuming we can coordinate that by mail.
The contest starts now–go ahead and put your entry in as a comment–and ends in one week (May 16) at midnight pacific time. Enter as many times as you like. If you win, you’ll have to send one of us your address, but no salesmen will call.
And we thank you for your support.

Eager for July due to a number of releases. Having read all the snippets and excerpts posted thus far, The Unfortunate Miss Fortunes is now at the top of my list.
Here is my (first) entry for the tagline contest…
“Three Magical Sisters. Low on Skill. High on Love.”
Corny? Yes, I think so. But sometimes corny works.
OMG, the pressure!
“Three times the magic, three times the opportunity for disaster.”
“Sex + Magic = ???”
“The Misses Fortune cordially invite you to their magical coming of age party. Finally.”
“Three kinds of magic, three kinds of men, one kind of hot.”
I’m going back and reading this stuff over. Then maybe I’ll have some better ideas.
Women, Magic, Men and Mayhem
Or
Men, Magic, and Mayhew… what’s a girl to do?
M*rde! (pardon my French)
That was supposed to have read
Men, Magic, and Mayhem.
Clearly Xan’s influence is at work here.
‘There’s magic in the night’? I’m sorry, but that one sounds kinda Love Boat-ish to me.
Of course, it’s better than the one that just ran straight from my head.
I’ll be back when I remember it.
oh yeah…
The Miss Fortunes - Three mostly well behaved sisters with totally out of control powers.
I like the “magic men and mayhem”one…
now i’m thinking in alliterations:
“devilry, desire… danger”
or variation there of.
“They’ll have you under their spell” too corny
“green smoke, purple rabbits and black arts.”
how bout
“Fighting your happily ever after has never been more entertaining!”
i was also thinking bout
“Three sisters meeting their destiny and an aunt from hell”
also that could be confusing - Xan isnt really from hell and with destiny im talking about the guys so….grrrrr, ..guess that wasnt really great but i have a hard time thinking bout something let alone in a foreign language. BTW do i get extra points for tryin? I sooo would love to win *grin*
Ok, I had to think on this a bit but here is what I came up with.
Only True Love Can Conquer Magic Gone Wild.
OK how about: “If only falling in love weren’t so magical.”
Or is that “wasn’t”?
And you thought falling in love with a mortal was dangerous.
Or how about this.
Falling in love has never been so magical.
Kinda like what me said, but with a twist.
The Unfortunate Miss Fortunes:
Love and magic to the rescue!
Another corny tag line–
See what happens when magic and romance mix in a small town
Another corny line–
What happens when magic and romance mix in a small town
Since I know what the arc cover looks like I won’t enter the contest
There are some great suggestions , wow.
Another corny tag–
What happens when magic and love mix in a small town.
“Destiny has never looked so good”?
Another version of Me’s tagline: “Falling in love is supposed to be magical - but not like this!”
Or: “Three sisters, three soulmates and one magical moment” or month or other unit of time; alternatively, borrowing from Mary (I am clearly pathetically derivative) : “Three sisters, three soulmates and serious magical mayhem”.
Hocus Pocus Hanky Panky?
Nah.
I got another one.
Watch what happens when true love meets real magic.
Three sisters just trying to get along, with a little magic thrown in for good measure.
Or…
TUMF - Gettin’ witchy with it. (yeah, bad. I know.)
Finding true love, mastering magical powers, saving the world. All in a day’s work for TUMF.
What’s so Unfortunate about a little magic and a lot of love? OR
What’s so Unfortunate about a little love? A LOT of magic!
Ok, I’m done. Really.
When true love happens, magic will fly.
I may not have people in my head begging me to tell their story, but tag lines I can do.
Purple Fog and Beau Coup Bunnies… Proof That Magic Still Exists! Sort of.
Undomesticated women
Untamed men
Uncontrollable magic
Outrageous love
It’s a wild ride
The Fortune Sisters - Bringing a whole new meaning to yo momma jokes
tee hee - I just couldn’t help my self.
How about this:
Love & magic: You try to keep it in check but the universe will have its way!
Unleashing their magic would give chaos free reign. Or maybe capture true love.
There’s magic in the night. And under the table, and on the ceiling, and floating down the sidewalk . . .
Really, Jenny, is this going to make a huge difference? You know we’re all going to buy it no matter what it says.
Bubble, bubble, family trouble,
Boyfriends turn up on the double.
Eye of newt and skin of snake,
How much more can three girls take?
Jamie - that was a good one. I had something like “Have you seen YOUR mother today?” Then it just went downhill from there. I’m so glad I wasn’t the only one thinking that. LOL
The only thing worse than their luck is their magic
Oooh, I like all of these. Damn. Got competition
Girls Gone Wild — it’s magic!
Oh all right. It was just a thought.
oh damn, i have to come up with something after that?
The Unfortunate Sisters. Color Coded.
wait, wait, i can do better. well, i really hope i can do better
Survival of the Magical
what the hell is wrong with me?
the bunnies come free
the sisters are ready, capable, and magical…they’re men are no slouches either
shoot me
Magic. the laws of physics have no chance
am i even on topic anymore?
Magic isn’t the only thing giving them a ride…
i seem to have a future in porn…or as spam calls it, pron
i’ll be back.
ok, it’s not showing up, so i’m sorry if this appears twice (hey, you never know; maybe they’ll lose good taste and pick one of mine):
oh damn, i have to come up with something after that?

oh sure, that one shows up.
ok, this is without out all my (funny) side-note comments:
The Unfortunate Sisters. Color Coded.
Survival of the Magical
the bunnies come free
the sisters are ready, capable, and magical…they’re men are no slouches either
Magic. the laws of physics has no chance
Magic isn’t the only thing giving them a ride…
WTF? why wont my entries show up? *wah*
ok, fave two i wrote:
The Unfortunate Sisters. Color Coded.

the bunnies come free
Magic. Mystery. Mayhem. and all on a monday morning (this would work much better if the breakfast scene is on a monday…just saying)
Magic. Sisters. Men. What’s a girl to do?
bunnies aren’t the only things popping up…
i hate blogger with a passion.
the bunnies come free

i hate blogger with a pssion that burns- is there a new word limit on comments?
the bunnies come free

one at a time because bloger SUCKS (or five thousand posts wil show up sometime before tomorrow)
the bunnies come free
Magic. Mystery. Mayhem. and all on a monday morning (this would work much better if the breakfast scene is on a monday…just saying)
Magic. Sisters. Men. What’s a girl to do?
change that to “what’s a witch to do?”
bunnies aren’t the only things popping up…
how mnay times can we post? and is there a word limit on this?
Magic isn’t the only thing frazzling these sisters/witches (pick one)…
except i keep picturing a swarmy grin accompaning this, so maybe not.
magic isn’t the only reason these men show up…geez, fifty thousand disgusting things just popped to mind (though that may not be a bad thing)
good night
geez, just noticed i basically stole mary’s for my “Magic. Sisters. Men. What’s a witch to do?” ignore that one
i like me’s Hocus Pocus Hanky Panky. really gets right down to it.
I think OH might actually be the kid sister your Fortune girls didn’t know they had. You should send a book to her just for sheer . . . something.
Now I can’t stop think up stupid tag lines, thank you very much.
Their magic conjures mayhem and men. [I, too, like Mary’s 3 M’s]
or
The Power of Three:
Dee, Lizzie and Mare = Magic, Mayhem and Men
Dreyer, Stuart and Crusie = Wonderful, Witty and Wild
The Unfortunate Miss Fourtunes: fighting their magic and finding their men.
Geez. You have really tapped into my OCD behaviour here.
There’s magic in the air.
Three witches-three times the magic; three sisters - three times the love
Bewitched, it ain’t
Magic and Love - A dangerous combination
Love and Magic - A hexing combination
Love the witches - love their magic
How about
“when you see the rabbits you know there is going to be trouble.”
I will try to think of another one. This is much harder than it looks.
Dee’s Tag Line: Changling lives and magic women.
Lizzie’s Tag Line: Turning men into lovers and defeat into victory.
Mare’s Tag Line: Queens of the universe, loved by all.
Enter as often as you like.
Short is better but we’re not picky. Go with what you think.
I so desperately want the ARC I’m willing to expose my lack of creativity:
You can’t fight magic…or love.
Three kinds of magic, all kinds of trouble.
You can hide your talent and shield your heart but the universe will have its way.
I like that universe wins thing especially knowing Mare is queen.
Love has never been so magical.
Evil Aunt, Witchy Sisters, Dangerous Men…And You Thought YOUR Life Was Complicated!
I love Magdiego’s “Three kinds of magic, all kinds of trouble”!
Read this book or we’ll turn you into a purple ferret.
Couldn’t resist.
They’re magic. Any or all of witch.
A Love Potion Extraordinaire.
No Ordinary Beings.
Three Fantastical Females!
Zap Me Baby
Beyond the norm; over the top; under the covers
Jenny, Anne & Eileen,
However are you going to choose just one of these? Any one of these would make me want to read more.
I have it! Several ARCs, to all your deserving minions… including this one.
… did I say that out loud?
Magic, Mirth and Romance. What better combination.
Magically Mischevious
or
Your great aunt Emmeline has nothing on Aunt Xan
or
Turning more men into mother f*ckers, one at a time.
(Sorry, is that too crude? I just can’t get that scene out of my head)
or
Family - by birth, magic - Unfortunately
Elizabeth, Cyndi, and OH, the spam blocker caught you. I have de-spammed you so they all posted. I have no idea what put you in there. Although I think OH’s series of comments is now pretty damn funny.
Whoa. I went away for two days, and you guys went crazy! This is wonderful stuff. I don’t know how we’re going to pick either(although, Dee is partial to those mother lines…..)
OH, your comments are hysterical, poor baby, you must have been so frustrated.
Okay, here’s another one:
The Unfortunate Miss Fortunes: Triple Trouble; Boil and Bubble
TUMF- where magic rains.
Ok- I have to get warmed up. I REALLY love purple.
*delurking for chance at the goodies*
Howzabout “Hang on to your broomsticks, it’s going to be a bumpy ride” …
As inspired by Arkansas Cyndi:
Love can be so hexing.
ahem. whoops.
well, i think i shut myself up. but i’ll be back. i seem to do my best work at three in the morning.
3 sisters each looking for her true magic and finding her true love
The Miss Fortunes are Misbehavin - again
or
The Unfortunate Miss Fortunes: Ready for anything that comes their way, except boyfriends, bunnies, fog, sex, hedgehogs, evil relatives…
Sex, love and MAGIC? What happened to the Rock and Roll?
or
The Bird and the Bees have got Nothing on These
or
Three women who love ‘em and leave ‘em sucking their thumbs in the fetal position
their aunt isn’t the only thing they’re up against…
Magic isn’t the only thing happening at the Unfortunate Sisters house…
it’s a toss-up between the men and the magic on whose more out of control
the unfortunate sisters would decide which is more out of control- their men or their magic- but they don’t have time…
and breakfast started so well every other day…
the sister’s house is filled up on magic…and men are about to join
family. magic. men. wouldn’t that drive you nuts too?
family. magic. men. what’s a sister/witch/woman to do?
magic attracts men like moths to the flame…
an aunt fighting the affects of aging…where’s the Dove commercials now?
sisters. they’re there for life. unless an aunt gets between them…
sisters. never get between them. their magic isn’t the only thing in their arsenal…
sisters stick together…even with an aunt trying to tear them apart
sisters with magic; a warning sign four hot men ignore (four cause mare got 2)
sisters. magic. men. hang on, it’s going to be ba bumpy ride… (actuall, someone may have already done that one)
i’ll try again later….
Jenny, help, it’s being mean to me again (i knew spammer had issues with me)
OH, you poor thing! Reading your increasingly frustrated comments was funny, but I’m sure it was most annoying at the time.
I really liked Jamie’s suggestion, but I’m pretty sure you couldn’t put it on a book cover.
Delurking for the contest -
The Unfortunate Miss Fortues: Their fortunes are about to change
or
their fortunes are changing
Magic happens. Trouble ensues.
thanks Jenny!
sisters. now they can turn you into a bunny…
the only thing more annoying than the aunt that’s trying to destroy them is the men wanting to save them…
the only thing more annoying than the aunt that’s trying to destroy them is the magic trying to save them…
also “the magic working to save them…”
it’s raining men in here…lucky unfortunate sisters
it’s hard TT. (and you need to play at the Grill more)
it worked! on the first try!
a novel about falling in love, magic gone a little haywire, and an aunt with a youth plan
Aunt Xan doesn’t stand a chance against the Unfortunate sisters, their magic, and their men
the only thing more lethal than a Fortune sister’s spell is falling in love
instead of lethal: deadly, dangerous, wild, uncontrollable, any other adjective…
hey, you, read the damn book
a woman bent on youth doesn’t stand a chance against three magical sisters
The Fortune Sisters: up against uncontrollable magic, dangerous men, and falling in love
dangerous= wild, surprising, good-looking, devastating, another adjective
The Fortune Sisters: up against uncontrollable magic, a dangerous aunt, and falling in love
I like “Hey, you, read the damn book.”
Sort of says it all.
I like the purple ferrets even better. I mean what’s a threat without a consequence?
I’d like to amend the first one I wrote.
If only falling in love weren’t quite so magical.
(I added “quite”. Yeah, I know, makes a huge difference.)
Hex, drugs, and rock and roll
A little hex, a little sex, a lotta trouble
And you thought /your/ aunt was irritating.
**************************************
Read the damn book or purple ferrets will ensue.
**************************************
I have no tag lines to add. OH
I’ll be buying the Damn Book.
Three sisters, three men, and magic - things are about to get interesting.
We’re going to need a bigger town. (Couldn’t resist.)
When the hex hits the fan, you need a magic wand to sort it all out.
When the hex hits the fan, you need the Unfortunate Miss Fortunes.
On the other hand, maybe I need to go read those insomnia cures again…
OH I’ll be buying the Damn Book
see? it works.
the bunnies are uprising…
bunnies and ferrets and smoke, oh my
how about
the person
who posts
the number 100 post
aha
i see that was i (not ME).
and let me (not that one) say, damn hard too, with that little “you’re posting too fast” error page popping up
oh, i see i forgot to say what that person who posts number 100 wins.
why, it’s an ARC
ok, yes, it’s kind of embarassing i tried that, but i may have run out of taglines…*sigh* i really have no excuses
the ferrets are coming! RUN!
see my point?
i should go to bed.
hmmm.i should probably stop talking to myself like this too.
DO YOU SEE WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO ME (not that one)? I AM GOING MORE NUTS THAN I WAS BEFORE.
i’m gonna go lay down now…
OH, poor baby. You’re going to flat wear yourself out if you keep this up. Or you’re going to break something. Have a little faith. You have magic, too, so trust your magic to help resolve the fate of the ARCs.
I think there’s a tag line in there somewhere, but I haven’t had enough caffeine yet today to find it.
OH, at least you’re coming up with /different/ taglines. I keep circling back to the ones I’ve offered before, trying to tweak them into the perfect tagline. It is a kind of obsessive thing. Sigh.
When the hex hits the fan, the result is magic, men, and mayhem.
mary: everytime you write “hex” i laugh, so you’re on to something. (or i’m just twisted, one of those two)
BCB: calm and rational, that is me (not that one…ok, maybe that one too).
actually, this has been an interesting exercise because i’m starting to realize how little attention i pay to taglines. i’m wondering how many other people look at taglines, or use them to pick a book.
then i was looking at Crusie books. all my Crusie boks (or at least the ones i have up here) don’t have taglines on their books, but on her site when you look at a book it has a cute little blurb like “Logical Min thinks love is a fairy tale. Rational Cal thinks forever’s a myth. Implacable Fate thinks they’re meant for each other. Bet Me. Put your money on fate.” and i think i always assumed they were on the book, but they weren’t.
i’m rambling at this point…but now i’m looking at all the books i have up here. and do authors normally come up with taglines, or the person who puts the book together, or what?
and just so i still have one: three sisters have more problems than a youth-bent aunt and uncontrollable powers…like falling in love.
Okay, here are a few:
>Three sisters with a twist on love.
>Careful what you wish for…
>It’s raining men… and ferrets.
>Three enchanting sisters, but they’re playing with fire.
Plus some demented ones from my better half:
>Love is a witch.
>It’s not the meat it’s the potions…
>Make love, not warlocks.
>These sisters are about to do a little prince charming.
(that last one sounds creepily pedophilic)
But my best efforts are:
>True love should be a little less magical.
or
>Romance, spells, suspense, and ferrets.
Respectfully submitted,
Auntie Em
The better half just sent his final (and least kinky) effort:
“Sometimes romance just has to be conjured up.”
That trailing preposition is a little off putting, so I tried to hack it into shape:
>Sometimes a girl needs to conjure up romance.
>It takes a witchy woman to conjure up romance.
or how about:
>Three enchanting sisters are conjuring up romance.
Now I must return to my life.
Auntie Em
here’s another:

The Unfortunate Miss Fortunes: Their Luck is Changing
