Dee’s Guy

As you can tell by the first chapter, Dee is the one living in a constant state of alert. She has spent the last twelve years of her life focusing on nothing more than protecting her sisters and herself. She’s basically been their mother, and has trouble thinking of herself any other way. She’s tried a couple of times to have relationships, hoping for something different from the men in her life. Well, the fact that she turns into their mother when she tries to have sex is a fairly strong indication that she hasn’t had any luck. She needs somebody who takes care of her for a change.

Of course it can’t be that easy. First of all, Aunt Xan is involved. She’s the one who sends the girls their true loves, and you know that can’t be for a good cause. She finds Danny, who she thinks is perfect for Dee. But Danny thinks he’s there to ferret out the girls’ darkest secrets, which is the very last thing Dee wants in this world. Dee doesn’t trust anybody, but especially a guy who smiles like Dennis Quaid while laying her secrets bare and threatening herself and her sisters.

But who couldn’t love Danny? He is a man who really loves what he does. He loves life, loves people, and finds that he loves Dee as well. Even as prickly and defensive as she is.

“Do you trust me?” she asked.

It was his turn to reach out, running his fingers down her cheek. “Yeah, oddly enough. I seem to have a taste for sharp-tongued shrews.

Dee stiffened, until she saw that sly gleam in his eyes. “Nobody’s called me that and lived to tell the tale, mister.”

“But I like sharp-tongued shrews. Or weren’t you listening?”

But, of course, Danny comes with his own secrets. Secrets even Dee’s Aunt Xan doesn’t know about. Secrets even Danny isn’t really aware of. Danny, who is on the hunt for a story that would expose Dee’s parents, whom he calls the Jim and Tammy Faye of psychics, is psychic himself.

“You don’t believe it’s real, do you?” she asked.

He never hesitated. He didn’t even smile. “No”, he said. “I don’t.”

Dee almost laughed. she should have know. He was a psychophobe with a pile of psychic magazines in his bedroom. “Not ghosties nor ghoulies nor even things that go bump in the night?”

“Swamp gas and overheated imaginations.”

Lord, she was tempted to show him. It would be so easy. All she had to do was reach across that table, grab him by the ears and kiss him. Really lip-lock in on him so that she sucked on his tongue like a Popsickle and he suddenly looked up to see his mother sitting in front of him. Wouldn’t he be surprised?

Who could guess that this is Dee’s true love? But he is. They both just have to figure out why–as they avoid Xan’s machinations and the various tribulations of a shapeshifting power that isn’t completely under control.

After all, before she knows if she can have a real relationship with Danny, Dee has to trust Danny enough to make love to him. We’ll just have to wait and find out how that comes out.

I really REALLY want to be on the list to get an ARC copy. Who do I need to (fill in the blank) to? I will. Oh yeah. I cannot wait for this book to be released.

    How much longer?

  5. Jenny Crusie March 30th, 2007 5:09 pm

    87 days.
Which I know because Mollie put a counter on the home page. Click on the header and look in the upper right hand corner.
But the website design will be up in a couple of weeks. That’s when we’ll actually start telling people about the blog. You all found it on your own. You’re so smart.

notice Jenny didn’t answer the question of what favor we have to do to who to get an advanced copy.

  7. Jenny Crusie March 31st, 2007 7:40 am

Okay, fine, you can’t have an advanced copy. I got three. I gave one to Mollie, one to a friend of mine who wiped otu on her motorcycle because she’s a badass, and I’m keeping one And they’ve got a really ugly temporary cover, too.

HOWEVER, it is possible that there might be a contest when the final site goes up here and someone might get to win one. Maybe.

PLEASE tell me they’ve stepped up the release date! PLEASE?

Ah, sorry. It hasn’t changed. However I did manage to score a couple more copies of the ARC than Jennie, so that it’s a much better possibility that there might be a couple of contest prizes when the site officially goes up(Jen’s right. The temporary ARC cover sucks)

trust us. we won’t be looking at that cover for very long.

Wait…Shouldn’t “Mare’s Guy” (aka Crash) have come first? Not that I’m complaining about being given more details to salivate over, but the anal retentive part of me noticed the change in order.

We’re going oldest to youngest here. Until we hit Xan who always comes last.

But don’t think we haven’t talked about it.
